Hennepin Sofa
The design process for the Hennepin Chair started with looking at the Crate Furniture pieces that Gerrit Rietveld did in the late 1930’s. The simplicity of reusing wood crate planks to create comfortable and functional chairs fits well with Loll’s recycled sheet material and our company ethos. We sought a way to support a simple slatted seat and back in a unique way that would bring a classic design language together with Loll’s current vocabulary. The heavy frame we designed works exceptionally well with our joinery system and it creates a solid foundation that can also support a love seat and sofa seating option without additional unsightly framing. The result conveys a classic piece of furniture that is both recognizable yet new and interesting.
The Hennepin name comes from the legacy of Louis Hennepin, a 17th century explorer who visited Minnesota in 1680 and who left by canoe via our home town of Duluth and the Great Lakes. The name Hennepin has been used as a landmark name in Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, and New York (coincidentally both Hennepin and Reitveld were Dutch) and ties together a nostalgic past seated in the present.

Materials
HDPE
Loll's high-density polyethylene (HDPE) products are 100% recyclable and use partially recycled HDPE, primarily from milk jugs. Milk jugs are used due to their lack of pigment so Loll's vibrant colors can be created. Our HDPE is non-porous and naturally anti-microbial, making it resistant to mold and mildew unlike other common outdoor furniture materials. Our HDPE is designed for all elements and can remain outside 365 days a year. It is marine grade, and can handle both extreme heat and cold without becoming brittle. We use a custom hidden fastener method on our products and use USA made aluminum inserts mated with a 304 grade stainless steel bolt in all joinery (although you won't see this).
Care + Maintenance
General Maintenance

HDPE | High Density Polyethylene
Most often, a simple hose-off will rinse dust and dirt from the surface. For spots where there is more dirt, use wet rag or a natural spray cleaner with microfiber towels. If there is dirt embedded in the texture, use mild soap (dish soap), water, and a stiff but gentle-bristled brush. You can also power wash Loll furniture if you keep the nozzle at least fifteen inches away from the HDPE. Cleaning agents like Simple Green are also a good option to help remove build up.
If necessary, household bleach can be used at a 1/2 cup per gallon of water mix. Allow it to sit for 2-3 minutes to disinfect and lift mildew or stains. Don't let it dry on the surface, bleach residue can leave marks. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all bleach traces. Allow the furniture to air dry in the sun. Prolonged or repeated bleach exposure can lead to surface dullness and/or discoloration.
*Do not use petroleum-based cleaners, sponges/cleaners with abrasive textures, or magic erasers as they can dull the surface of the HDPE.
Graffiti and Marker Removal
Begin with mild dish soap with warm water and gently scrub with a soft cloth and/or soft bristled brush in circular motions. If markings persist, use a citrus-based cleaner according to the manufacturer's instructions and a soft bristle brush and/or microfiber towel.
*Do not use petroleum-based cleaners, sponges/cleaners with abrasive textures, or magic erasers as they can dull the surface of the HDPE. Avoid acetone, lacquer thinner, or paint strippers.
